Internationally recognized TEFL, CELTA, or TESOL certification. But how do I go about getting this certification?  I think that I have to buy a program or study guides, pay for the test, then take the test, and wait for the results.  And how long does that take?

First, CELTA.
CELTA stands for Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults.   It is the original TESOL/TEFL certificate course and has been running for four decades. It is the most internationally recognized TESOL  training program in the world.
Next, TEFL.  Teach English as a Foreign Language:
To Teach English as a Foreign Language in a foreign country (non native English speaking country), a TEFL Certification is typically required as schools and language institutes want to hire teachers who have received proper training.
Then, TESOL.
TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and encompasses what used to be called TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).

CELTA is recognized by the majority of the language schools all around the world. This is mainly because it is an accredited course from Cambridge University. All the language schools or training centers should be certified to be able to offer this course. In addition, all the trainers are CELTA and DELTA [Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages] holders and are assigned by Cambridge University as well. CELTA courses are held all around the world, just visit the CELTA website: CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) (CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages))
Why not TESOL and TEFL courses? Two reasons.  One, since there is not a unanimously agreed upon syllabus, language schools may not accept a TESOL or a TEFL certificate acquired from a different center and then may force you to take their own courses. Second, most often these courses are not valid and are just waste of money.
Finally, if you want to become a certifies ESL instructor and be able to teach in most parts of the world, go for CELTA.
. . . some schools might require CELTA in addition to other credentials you have, so you’d better get a CELTA which takes just 100 hours ( a month). However, DELTA is not needed unless you are planning to become director of studies or a CELTA trainer. Most of the people who are engaged in ESL teaching would land a job just by a CELTA.

And this . . .
TESOL and TEFL are the same thing. CELTA is a 120-hour TESOL / TEFL certificate with 12 hours of teaching practice, which is the preferred international standard. A TESOL Diploma will prepare you better though.

This was a good find in large part to Rosan.  It's Cisco's Certification Table.  It breaks down the levels into Entry, Associate, Professional, Expert, and Architect.  Roseanne did mention that Cisco is all about the networking side to computers, but truthfully I didn't catch what that means or how it is different from other sides of computing or computer programming.  It sounds like the networkig side is like how UPS has integrated systems with companies that use their services around the globe.  This was good to find out: Lynda.com has Cisco Networking courses.
